Coastal Grip and Electric was hired to provide production support for a shoot outside of Orlando Florida in Clermont. We had a beautiful backdrop with qualified talent on set. The continuous lighting allowed for photos and video to happen seamlessly. Our grip truck was able to provide the necessary gear while our electric department provided the right tools to manipulate light using Kino Flos, Astra Litepanels and HMI Lights.
Coastal Grip had the opportunity to work at Roger Dean Stadium in Jupiter Florida on a launch of a new baseball product line by Dirty South Bats, via Exceleron Designs. The director wanted to shoot slomo at over 1,200 frames per second which means the Phantom Flex was utilized. The shoot called to be done at night which means that light which could handled that frame would need to be used. So... no Kino, no standard HMI, no LED and no stadium lights. What we used to bypass the flicker was tried and true Tungsten lighting. We used 5k to 2k Mole-Richardson lights with a blaring fog machine on the coldest night to date in December. Next time you are in Abacoa, be sure to stop by the stadium and see a game... one of the best places to see baseball in south Florida or Palm Beach.
In Florida, Golf is one of the major topics filmed. Video production in golf, especially in Palm Beach County is highly covered. We were asked to work with Greg Norman and Cobra Golf to light the scene on a partly cloudy day... which is always trouble... but the Coastal Grip and TRC Pictures team was able to see it through without a hitch. Look for Greg Norman's tips on Cobra Golf's website.
Some of our gear is tried and true and sometimes it is hot off the press. The latter is the case for the reason behind the unboxing. I was so excited to unbox the Astra Bi Color LED here in south Florida that I asked my wife to film me on the porch opening and testing the light right away. Sure, Miami productions need powerful HMI lights to illuminate the street at night or compete with daylight. Sure, Fort Lauderdale video shoots can use Kino Flos to light interior sets. But the Astra can be in both conversations.
